Welcome to Bits And Pieces Studio Online, featuring art quilts and wearable art by Barbara Tinsman and the natural stone and precious metal jewelry of her daughter Rebecca Tinsman. You can view Bits and Pieces wearable art, art quilts and classically designed beaded jewelry at craft shows in Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Barbara and Becky welcome commissions. Our studios in Elkton Maryland and Newark Delaware are open by appointment. Our goal is to provide high quality, one of a kind fiber art and jewelry.

Barbara's nature inspired art quilts combine multiple layers cotton, silk, wool and synthetic fabrics with elegant thread painting to produce naturalistic wall quilts, "quiltscapes," and fanciful art quilts. Art-to-wear garments include casual quilted jackets as well as elegantly quilted ensembles. Her quilted clothing and "quiltscape" patterns are suitable for both confident beginners and skilled sewers.

Barbara's laid-back approach to teaching fiber arts insures that students improve their skills and creativity in a student centered environment. She is available for presentations and workshops to guilds.

more information
The family has a history of creativity. Barbara's great grandmother was a seamstress and quilter; her grandmother a milliner and seamstress, and her mother was a seamstress. She has been sewing since her legs were long enough for her feet to work the treadle. Upon retirement from a forty year career in social services she returned to her original vocation in the arts. In addition to sewing and quilting, she was a knitting, crewel and needlepoint designer for shops in Delaware and West Virginia. Her work is characterized by her special use of color and texture. Each piece is unique and most are designed to meet her clients' individual taste.

Rebecca Tinsman
Becky is a full-time physical therapist as well as a talented musician who has been beading for several years. Although her first beading love is making French beaded flowers, she designs jewelry with a specific client or occasion in mind. She uses beads to set off the artistry of bead-makers from studios from North Carolina to Maine and enjoys working most with natural themes. She inherited a love of color from her mother as well as a relaxed style. She enjoys working with natural mineral/semi-precious beads for most of her jewelry, but also enjoys working with tiny, tiny seed-beads to create pictures with beads that can be worn or used as sun-catchers. One necklace may have 4000 beads!

Beaded jewelry by Becca features natural minerals, semi precious stones, crystals and lampwork pendants assembled with sterling silver and gold filled findings. Her necklace, bracelet and ear ring sets are one of a kind.
