Barbara's nature inspired art quilts combine multiple layers cotton, silk, wool and synthetic fabrics with elegant thread painting to produce naturalistic wall quilts, "quiltscapes," and fanciful art quilts. Art-to-wear garments include casual quilted jackets as well as elegantly quilted ensembles. Her quilted clothing and "quiltscape" patterns are suitable for both confident beginners and skilled sewers.
Barbara's laid-back approach to teaching fiber arts insures that students improve their skills and creativity in a student centered environment. She is available for presentations and workshops to guilds.
more information
The family has a history of creativity. Barbara's great grandmother was a seamstress and quilter; her grandmother a milliner and seamstress, and her mother was a seamstress. She has been sewing since her legs were long enough for her feet to work the treadle. Upon retirement from a forty year career in social services she returned to her original vocation in the arts. In addition to sewing and quilting, she was a knitting, crewel and needlepoint designer for shops in Delaware and West Virginia. Her work is characterized by her special use of color and texture. Each piece is unique and most are designed to meet her clients' individual taste.
